East Brunswick High School athletics · Sunday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026
Manalapan’s boys soccer team arrived at East Brunswick on Saturday morning without a loss all season. It went home on the wrong end of a 6-0 final.
That was the loudest result of a week that had plenty of them. Girls tennis won two more state tournament matches without dropping a flight and will play for a sectional championship on Tuesday. Field hockey outscored three opponents 17-1 and is 12-0. The boys junior varsity cross country team won a 21-team title by two points. And on Saturday afternoon, in a match where every set was decided by two points, girls volleyball won for the first time this season.
Seventeen varsity results came in, and East Brunswick finished with ten wins, six losses and a tie.
Here’s how it went, sport by sport.
Boys Soccer: Six Goals Against a Team That Had Allowed Five All Season
The Bears won all three of their games, outscored their opponents 14-2 and are 8-3-2. They have not lost since Sept. 10, a run of nine games with seven wins and two ties.
Saturday was the one people will remember. Manalapan came in 11-0-1, ranked eighth in the state, and had given up five goals in twelve games. East Brunswick scored three in the first half and three more in the second. Giovanny Sousa had a hat trick and added an assist. Keko Michael scored once and set up three goals. Kareem Amer had a goal and an assist, Mateo Dela Cruz scored, and John Matos had an assist. At the other end, Rosario Volino stopped all five shots Manalapan put on goal.
The week started Tuesday with a 4-2 win over Metuchen, with three of the goals coming before halftime. Michael, Quentin Taha, Amer and Liam Kim scored, Michael assisted on two, and Ryan Dela Cruz had an assist. Volino made seven saves.
Thursday’s GMC Tournament pool-play game at Edison was a 4-0 win in which East Brunswick put eighteen shots on goal and allowed two. Michael scored twice and set up another, Amer and Sousa scored, Lamine Ndao had two assists and Joshua Ferreira had one. Volino and Joshua Matthews shared the shutout.
Add it up and Michael had four goals and six assists in three games. He has nine goals during the nine-game unbeaten run. Sousa scored four times this week, Amer scored in all three games, and the Bears have four shutouts in their last five.
Sayreville visits on Oct. 13.
Girls Tennis: Two More Sweeps and a Shot at a Sectional Title
East Brunswick is 15-0 and into the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 final. Through three rounds of the state tournament the Bears have won all fifteen flights.
Tuesday’s quarterfinal against Gloucester Tech was as one-sided as tennis gets. East Brunswick won 5-0 and took 60 of the 64 games played. Kellyanne Mossi won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles, Kaitlin Wang and Prisha Patel won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles, Andrea Baraian and Kelsey Zhao won 6-0, 6-1, Aiona Cheng won 6-1, 6-0 and Arya Joshi won 6-1, 6-1.
Thursday’s semifinal against Old Bridge also finished 5-0, but first singles was a fight. Joshi lost the first set 6-4, won the second 6-2 and then took the deciding tiebreaker 10-8. The other four flights went in straight sets, with Mossi winning 6-0, 6-0 again, Cheng 6-2, 6-1, Wang and Patel 6-1, 6-3 and Zhao and Baraian 6-2, 6-3.
In between, the Bears won 4-1 at Edison Academy on Wednesday with a reshuffled lineup. Cheng won 6-0, 6-0, Joshi won 6-2, 6-1, Zhao and Baraian moved up to first doubles and won 6-0, 6-1, and Alex Gvimradze and Kaylynn Mossi won 6-1, 6-1 at second doubles. Grace Shin pushed her first set to 7-5 at third singles before losing in two.
The season numbers keep getting harder to believe. Kellyanne Mossi has played thirteen matches and won all 26 sets, 156 games to one. Twelve of the thirteen ended 6-0, 6-0. Wang and Patel are 13-0 together at first doubles. As a team, East Brunswick has won 68 of 75 flights.

Eight different players scored this week. Gerould scored in all three games and finished with four goals and two assists, and Hooper had three goals and two assists. For the season it is now twelve games, 59 goals scored, two allowed and ten shutouts. Gerould has 16 goals and nine assists. Hooper has 14 goals and seven assists. Umbach has saved 18 of the 20 shots on goal she has faced.
