Thousands of us drive past the mound on Edgeboro Road every day. It began as a sand-and-gravel quarry before 1954, it is really two landfills stacked on top of each other, and almost everything it does is invisible from the road. Part 1 of a four-part Eyes on EB series.

The store the township will get is a quarter smaller than the one it approved, the drive-through added alongside it has no tenant, and nobody has said when it opens.

Eyes on EB reviewed every recorded vote the Township Council took across 25 meetings over twelve months. In 118 roll-call votes, council members cast exactly one No — and the records also show discussion before 94.1 percent of substantive votes.

East Brunswick has banned data centers in every commercial, business and industrial zone — twenty districts in all — even though no data center was ever proposed here. One of the questions Eyes on EB gets most often: what exactly are they building at Brunswick Square? The construction you can see is a retail renovation. The housing redevelopment is a separate decision that hasn't been made — and East Brunswick's Fair Share Plan says the plan is due Sept. 30.

NJDOT has scheduled the Milltown Road ramp onto Route 18 north to close Aug. 31 and stay closed through a bridge replacement running into 2029. The state has committed to East Brunswick that no Route 18 travel lanes will close because of the project before Jan. 1, 2027 — and the public comment window shuts Sept. 10.
