The store the township will get is a quarter smaller than the one it approved, the drive-through added alongside it has no tenant, and nobody has said when it opens.

Eyes on EB reviewed every recorded vote the Township Council took across 25 meetings over twelve months. In 118 roll-call votes, council members cast exactly one No — and the records also show discussion before 94.1 percent of substantive votes.

East Brunswick has banned data centers in every commercial, business and industrial zone — twenty districts in all — even though no data center was ever proposed here. We looked at what the ordinance actually prohibits, why the council acted now, what changed between the July and August votes, and the one question about redevelopment areas that is still open.

A resident said East Brunswick property taxes were rising about 7%. The council president said the municipal portion rose about 1%. Both are right — because five different bodies tax your property, and the Township Council sets about a fifth of the bill.
