East Brunswick High School athletics · Sunday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026

It was a busy week for the Bears. Thirteen varsity results came in, and East Brunswick finished with eight wins, four losses and a tie.

Field hockey won twice more, is still unbeaten at 9-0 and has clinched at least a share of its division title. Girls tennis went to 12-0 and won its first match of the state tournament. Girls soccer won two in a row behind a Hannah Cheraibi hat trick, boys soccer stretched its unbeaten run to six, and gymnastics posted its best score of the season.

Here’s how it went, sport by sport.

Field Hockey: Nine Wins, One Goal Allowed

Danielle Bradley’s team is 9-0, 7-0 in the GMC Red, and Friday’s win over Old Bridge clinched at least a share of the division title.

Tuesday against Metuchen, Rachel Gerould set up both goals in a 2-0 win. Talia Locascio scored in the first quarter and Jolie Salamon in the third. That was shutout number seven.

Friday against Old Bridge, the offense put on a show. East Brunswick won 7-0, with three goals in the second quarter alone. Logan Hooper and Gerould each scored twice and set up another. Alexa DeRado had the best passing day of anyone on the field with three assists, and scored the last goal herself off Hooper’s pass. Locascio and Salamon scored again, so both found the net in both games this week. Reagan Umbach saved the only shot Old Bridge put on goal.

The season numbers are remarkable. Nine games, 42 goals scored, one allowed, and eight shutouts. Umbach has saved 16 of the 17 shots on goal she has faced. Gerould now has 12 goals and seven assists, and Hooper has 11 goals and five assists, with a goal in seven of the nine games.

The Bears visit South Plainfield on Oct. 6.

Girls Tennis: 12-0, and Moving On in the State Tournament

Cory Widmaier’s team is 12-0, 7-0 in the GMC Red, and opened the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 tournament with a win.

Tuesday against J.P. Stevens finished 4-1, and the best story of the day was at second doubles. Andrea Baraian and Kelsey Zhao lost the first set 6-0, won the second 6-4, and then took the deciding tiebreaker 10-5. That is a real comeback. Aiona Cheng won 6-1, 6-2 at second singles, and Kaitlin Wang and Prisha Patel won 6-4, 6-2 at first doubles. Arya Joshi lost at first singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Wednesday’s state tournament first round against Monroe was a 5-0 sweep in which East Brunswick lost just eight games across ten sets. Joshi bounced back with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles, Cheng won 6-1, 6-0, Wang and Patel won 6-0, 6-1, and Baraian and Zhao won 6-2, 6-0.

And then there is Kellyanne Mossi. She won both of her matches 6-0, 6-0 again. Through eleven matches she has won all 22 sets she has played, 132 games to one. Ten of those eleven matches have ended 6-0, 6-0. Wang and Patel are 11-0 together at first doubles.

Gloucester Tech visits for the quarterfinal on Oct. 6.

Girls Soccer: Two Straight Wins and a Cheraibi Hat Trick

Kevin Brady’s team won both of its games this week and is 4-6.

Tuesday at Woodbridge started badly. Woodbridge scored in the fourth minute. Then East Brunswick scored the next four goals. Hannah Cheraibi scored in the 6th, 25th and 45th minutes for a hat trick. Samantha Baker scored in the 20th minute and set up two of Cheraibi’s goals, and Alanna Kienle and Lauren Baker each had an assist. The Bears won 4-2. Caylin Docherty made five saves and Keira Smith made one.

Thursday at Piscataway, one goal was enough. Abigail Alexio scored in the 30th minute off Samantha Baker’s pass, and Docherty saved all three shots Piscataway put on target for a 1-0 shutout. East Brunswick put twelve shots on goal.

Baker finished the week with a goal and three assists. Spotswood visits on Oct. 6.

Boys Soccer: Unbeaten in Six

Terry McKibbin’s side won one and tied one and is 5-3-2. The Bears haven’t lost since Sept. 10, going four wins and two ties since then, with three clean sheets in their last four games.

Thursday’s GMC Tournament pool-play game at Middlesex was a 3-0 win. Sean Enda, Daniel Krasnopolskiy and Kyrillos Michael scored, Liam Kim assisted twice and John Matos once. Joshua Matthews and Rosario Volino made two saves apiece to share the shutout, and East Brunswick put seventeen shots on goal.

Saturday against Notre Dame at Monroe Township High School, neither team scored through regulation or overtime, and it ended 0-0. Notre Dame’s goalkeeper made eight saves to keep it that way.

Michael has five goals in his last six games. Metuchen visits on Oct. 6.

Gymnastics: The Best Score of the Season
